Your last window for 2026 Verifiable CPD hours. The CPD reporting year closes December 31 for CPA Ontario members (other provincial bodies may differ). This is the last live technical session we're running in 2026 — and it's built from the questions you asked at the first one.

You asked. This is the second hour.

Ninety CPAs joined the first session live, and the chat filled with questions that didn't fit a 101: what happens when a policy moves from the opco to the holdco; who gets the money when a 50/50 partner dies and the agreement is silent; what a ten-pay actually looks like on the balance sheet; whether the CDA credit survives the lender being repaid.

The 102 session answers them — cited to the Act, worked on anonymized numbers, in one technical hour. If you missed the first one, no catching up required: the one mechanism everything hangs off gets a two-minute recap, then we go.

What We'll Cover

Built from the questions CPAs asked at Life Insurance 101. The detailed agenda and learning objectives are sent to every registrant ahead of the session for their CPD file.

The Policy in Transactions

What happens when a corporate-owned policy changes hands — between related corporations, between a corporation and its shareholder, or when the business is sold mid-way through the premium schedule.

The Policy in the Shareholders' Agreement

How buy-sell funding actually works when a shareholder dies, where the CDA credit lands, and the drafting points an agreement has to settle before anyone needs it.

The Policy in Financing

Collateral assignment and borrowing against a corporate policy — the deductibility provisions that apply, and what the CDA credit looks like at death when a lender is involved.

The Policy on the T2

What sits on the balance sheet, what gets added back on Schedule 1, how the CDA is tracked — and how to read the illustration the advisor sent, column by column.

The December File Scan

The six client-file triggers from the first session, re-cut as a year-end review pass you can run through the working papers before you close 2026.

One technical hour. Five things you'll walk out able to do.

Written for your CPD file: five measurable learning objectives, a detailed timed agenda, and full documentation after the session — certificate, attendance log, quiz, and the complete slide deck. The agenda is emailed to every registrant before the session.

Confirmed details will be posted here and emailed to registrants

A second technical chair is being confirmed for this session. Registrants will be the first to know — and the session runs as scheduled either way, with the same documentation package.

Built for Practitioners

This Session Is For:

  • CPAs in public practice serving incorporated owner-managers
  • CPAs in industry with corporate structure or treasury responsibility
  • Tax practitioners and estate lawyers who touch shareholder agreements and reorgs
  • CPAs who attended the first session — or who already have a corporate-owned policy on a client file and want to know what to do with it

What This Is Not:

  • Not a product pitch — no carrier, no policy, no illustration is being sold
  • Not client solicitation — this is professional education for advisors
  • Not a repeat — the CDA basics get a two-minute recap, then the hour goes where the first session couldn't

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this count toward my CPD requirement?
The session is 1.0 technical hour and may be eligible for Verifiable CPD — members should consult the member regulations. We provide the supporting documentation: a certificate of attendance, the session attendance log, a five-question technical quiz, the full slide deck PDF, and a detailed agenda with learning objectives.
Is this a sales presentation?
No. This is technical education for CPAs. No product, carrier, or policy is being sold, and no client business is being solicited. The session ends with how to collaborate with a specialist when you spot a case in a client file — that's it.
Will it be recorded?
The certificate and attendance log are issued for live attendance, and the Q&A is live-only. All registrants receive the full slide deck PDF and the resource pack afterward either way.
Who should attend?
CPAs in public practice or industry who serve — or are — incorporated Canadian businesses, especially anyone with a corporate-owned policy already on a client file. Tax practitioners and estate lawyers who work with shareholder agreements, holdco structures, or succession files will also find it directly useful.
Do I need to have attended the first session?
No. The 102 session stands on its own — the one mechanism everything else depends on (the Capital Dividend Account credit) gets a two-minute recap at the top, and every provision is cited so you can verify the material yourself. Registrants also receive a link to the recording of the first session if they want the full foundation.
Why "last window for 2026 hours"?
Two plain facts: this is the last live technical session Dundas Wealth is running in 2026, and for CPA Ontario members the CPD reporting year closes December 31 (other provincial bodies set their own periods — check yours). The session is 1.0 technical hour and may be eligible for Verifiable CPD — members should consult the member regulations.
What does it cost?
Nothing. It's free to attend, including all documentation and the resource pack.
Can I forward this to colleagues?
Please do. Each attendee should register with their own email so their certificate and documentation are issued in their own name.
